House of Blues: Heating Up the Gaslamp Quarter

Anja Gardner

Rx for the Blues

Take an artsy Gaslamp Quarter location, a fabulously funky menu, a few sinful drink concoctions, a little bit of love, plus a whole lotta blues and rock n' roll, and you've got the most diverse, warm-hearted, and hippest joint in San Diego: House of Blues.

Savor the Flavor

Momma's home cooking was never like this.  Pan Seared Voodoo Shrimp.  Skillet Baked Rosemary Cornbread.  Full Racks of “Fall off the Bone” Baby Back Ribs.  Creole Jambalaya.  Cajun Meatloaf.  And to top it all off, White Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding.  All cooked from scratch and sure to tickle even the most fickle of taste buds.  This is some seriously soulful southern hospitality.  Just don’t forget to check out the full line of specialty drinks to warm the mind, body and soul, too.

Searching for the perfect place to spend a Monday? You’ll find Happy Hour in the restaurant every weekday night from 4 –7pm with great food and drink specials.  And on Mondays, Happy Hour is all night long.  You might even catch no-cover live music.  What’s more, the House of Blues Fifth Avenue Side Stage in the restaurant area showcases bands in an intimate setting many nights a week.

Rockin’ the Gaslamp Quarter

If the restaurant entices you in, the magic of the music will make you stay all night.  Located in

San Diego's historic Gaslamp Quarter, House of Blues showcases a multi-level, 1000+ capacity Music Hall with state-of-the-art sound and lighting production.  There is a general admission dance floor plus an upstairs area with reserved seating for private enjoyment.  True to its blues roots, the venue books the biggest names in blues-influenced artists.  And though the heart of House of Blues is rooted in blues, you'll hear almost every music genre imaginable.  Rock n' roll. Punk.  Alternative.  Heavy metal.  Rap.  Country.  Hip-hop.  Rhythm and blues.  Rock en español.  Jazz.  Zydeco.  Folk.  Electronica.  The list goes on.  This is a melting pot, where boundaries are broken, people are just people, and good music is just good music.  Plain and simple.

Praise the Lord and Pass the Biscuits

The famed Sunday Gospel Brunch is a must-see attraction at every House of Blues.  This inspiring weekly event features an amazing Southern Style buffet, live gospel performances, and is sure to be a moving experience for the entire family.  You just might find yourself dancing in your seat!

For the Love of Art

In addition to hand-painted interiors designed by House of Blues artisans, an estimated 350 pieces of folk art adorn the club, hand-picked from the House of Blues' artifact warehouse in New Orleans.

Wanna take some of this culture back home with you?  No problem.  The Company Store – an exclusive onsite retail shop – stocks original gifts, music, clothing and other souvenirs.  Plus it also offers original folk art for purchase.

Kickin’ It in The Delta Room

Adjacent to the Music Hall is the newly expanded and renovated Delta Room.  This distinguished space boasts wall-to-wall Persian rugs, ornate gold leaf detail around the room, plush soft seating and ambient lighting.  The large drop-down screen and multiple oversized hi-def monitors are ideal for viewing live feed from the Music Hall.  With its own private entrance, bar and restroom facilities, the Delta Room allows guests to enjoy the individuality of House of Blues style while still maintaining an air of exclusivity.  It’s also a great place for private parties and special events.
