August 6 – 10
Orange County Performing Artscenter presents
American Ballet Theatre
Experience Etudes, a ballet by Harold Lander illustrating the complete development of classical ballet from the basic five positions to that pure virtuosity of romanticism.  Etudes is sometimes referred to as a representation of the work which must be accomplished by dancers as they make that difficult climb to the top of their art.  American Ballet Theatre also returns with a new ballet by Twyla Tharp to the music of Danny Elfman scheduled to debut in July in New York.  Orange County Performing Artscenter, Segerstrom Hall. 714-556-ARTS. www.ocpac.org.

August 7 – 10
Orange County Classic Jazz Festival
This annual classic jazz festival features nearly two dozen different bands and one non-stop party.  Bands appearing this year include Buck Creek, Club 7 Jazz Band, Crazy Rhythm Hot Society Orchestra, Neville Dickie, Yve Evans, Fulton Street Jazz Band, Mike Henebry Orchestra, High Sierra Jazz Band, Independence Hall Jazz Band, Ivory & Gold, Jean Kittrell and the Rivermen, Le Jazz Hot, Midiri Brothers, New Wolverine Jazz Orchestra, Night Blooming Jazzmen, Paris Washboard, Titan Hot 7, Titanic Jazz Band, and We Three.  Hilton Costa Mesa. 888-215-6222. www.oc-classicjazz.org.

August 19 – 31
Orange County Performing Artscenter presents
A Chorus Line
In an empty theater, on a bare stage, casting for a new Broadway musical is almost complete.  For 17 dancers, this audition is the chance of a lifetime.  It’s the opportunity to do what they’ve always dreamed of – a chance to dance.  This is A Chorus Line, the musical for everyone who’s ever had a dream and put it all on the line.  Winner of nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for drama, this singular sensation is the longest-running American Broadway musical ever.  Come to Segerstrom Hall to meet the new generation of Broadway’s best.  Orange County Performing Artscenter, Segerstrom Hall. 714-556-ARTS. www.ocpac.org.
