Turn Up the Heat: Local Hot Spots

Anja Brydum

In Orange County, we make every day as hot as we can handle.  If you wanna feel the burn, then it’s time to turn up the heat and take a peek at some of the best insider tips on how to add a little spice to summer in the OC.

HOT YOGA
It’s one of the hippest trends in SoCal, and literally one of the hottest spots in OC.  Just step into the studio at Huntington Beach Hot Yoga and we know you’ll agree.  This 90-minute class features a challenging series of 28 asanas (postures) and 2 pranayamas (breathing exercises) practiced in a heated room, suitable for all ages and ability levels.  The heat warms the muscles, prevents injuries, increases circulation, and cleanses the body by flushing toxins and allowing the deepest workout possible.  Not to mention the entire class is directed at creating the highest level of energy, vitality, and freedom, cultivating the body’s natural capacity to relax and dramatically reducing the negative effects of stress.  And who doesn’t want to get rid of a little stress?  Repeat with us:  Perseverance.  Patience.  Acceptance.
When:    Classes scheduled daily.
Where:    8853 Adams Avenue, Huntington Beach

HOT DISHES
One of the hottest OC eateries among locals is Native Foods at The CAMP in Costa Mesa’s hip SoBeCa District.  This organic vegan restaurant has been specially crafted to meet the needs of today’s discriminating, health-conscious diners – vegetarians and meat-eaters alike.  Hearty, wholesome comfort food has never been this eco-friendly.  If you like to eat vegetarian style, you’ll love this place.  And if you’re a carnivore, you just might find yourself converted (or at the very least, thoroughly satisfied) by their delicious meatless concoctions.  Hot tip: if you wanna warm your belly, a big ol’ bowl of Native Chili topped with Native Cheese, chopped onions, and served with a huge hunk of cornbread is one of the tastiest dishes in town.  You'll also find specials and a happy hour daily.
When:    11am – 10pm every day.
Where:    2937 Bristol Street, Costa Mesa

HOT TUNES
And if it’s a hot dose of night life you desire, we’ve got you covered.  Take a venue set in the heart of Orange County, a fabulously funky menu, a few sinful drink concoctions, a little bit of love, plus a whole lotta blues and rock n’ roll, and you’ve got the most diverse, warm-hearted, hippest joint in Anaheim:  House of Blues.  This is the ultimate late night hot spot.  Dance, drink, dine – do what you want, just have fun.  Little RichardThe Moving UnitsGeorge ThorogoodThe Roots.  It doesn’t matter what kind of tunes you dig, the House of Blues Anaheim brings you the hottest acts every night of the week.
When:    Call or check web site for schedule
Where:    1530 S. Disneyland Drive, Anaheim
