The Real OC: Remembering FOX's Hottest Hit

Anja Brydum
May, 2008

Among the millions who loved The OC on FOX?  Bet you're excited to be here in the real deal.  While we're still mourning the loss of The OC after four glorious seasons, why not check out some sights made famous by your favorite show?

Newpsie Fashion
So where did those cool Newport kids spend their not-so-hard-earned allowance?  Episode after episode, you heard local names dropped: Fashion Island and South Coast Plaza.  Newport's Fashion Island is still a hot spot.  And remember way back to Season 1 when they first met - when Marissa (Mischa Barton) takes Ryan (Benjamin McKenzie) Christmas shopping?  That's Costa Mesa's South Coast Plaza where she dreamily muses "I know it sounds stupid, but I like it here.  Everything is so perfect.  You walk around feeling like all your problems can be solved by the right kind of nail polish or a new pair of shoes".

Homegrown Threads
The real Orange County's hot homegrown brands found their way into homes across the nation through the wonders of television.  But now you can really bring some of that OC style back to your hometown.
Who can forget Summer's (Rachel Bilson) infamous excuse for serving detention: "There was a Paul Frank sale.  I figured that was more important than the Ming Dynasty".  Local designer and entrepreneur Paul Frank began his world-famous brand right here, and recently opened up a shop at South Coast Plaza.  And those Modern Amusement shirts Seth (Adam Brody) was always wearing?  Also a local brand.  And it's impossible, on the show or off, to spend a day at the beach without seeing hundreds of locals sporting Roxy and Quiksilver.

Chow Down
How about tempting your taste buds with one of the chic coastal restaurants where Sandy (Peter Gallagher) and Kirsten (Kelly Rowan) always dined?  Check out the bevy of options lined up along Newport Bay.  You often caught a glimpse of the bay on show.  And now that you're here, you can check out yachts, sailboats, private docks and dramatic waterfront homes for yourself.  Or you could always cruise by Pelican Hill - the exclusive gated community in Newport Coast where the The OC's Cohens lived.  And if you get a chance, head to Balboa Island and stop by Sugar N' Spice to grab a tasty, hand-dipped Balboa Bar just like Summer in Season 4's premiere.
