Detroit Bar. 843 W. 19th Street, Costa Mesa. Detroit Bar is one of our fave venues in the OC. It’s kinda hidden (smack dab in the middle of a strip mall), the interior is sleek and hip, and the bar consistently features awesome acts. This month, do yourself a favor and check out psychedelic garage rock revivalists Black Lips from Atlanta, GA. The show also features special guests Japanese Motors. Sweet. Sorry kids, 21+ with ID. 800-594-TIXX. 949-642-0600. detroitbar.com. Wheelchair Accessible. Cirque du Soleil: KOOZA Opens January 8. Grand Chapiteau, Orange County Great Park. 6990 Marine Way, Irvine. If you’ve ever dreamed of experiencing Cirque du Soleil, there is no better time than now. KOOZA is a return to the origins of Cirque du Soleil: combining two circus traditions – acrobatic performance and the art of clowning. The show highlights the physical demands of human performance in all its splendor and fragility, presented in a colorful mélange that emphasizes bold slapstick humor. We dare you to not be completely enamored. 800-450-1480. cirquedusoleil.com/kooza. Wheelchair Accessible. Secrets of Circles January 16 - May 2. 10am – 5pm. Taco Bell Discovery Science Center. 2500 N. Main Street, Santa Ana. Circles are pretty amazing shapes. If you look around, you’ll see that they’re everywhere: wheels, clocks, doorknobs, tortillas, Frisbees, tops and more.
