Summer is pretty much over as far as all the kids being out of school and the beaches and local surfing spots being packed beyond all limits.  This is the really great time of year for surfing the local breaks around Orange County.

Along with the enormous decrease in the crowds in the water there is the fact that the weather is still great and the water is still fairly warm.  This is also the time of year we get the big annual offshore winds that make surfing conditions fantastic.  Of course these are the same dry winds that seem to ignite huge brush fires all over the place.  But they really make the waves good so the surfing community is always happy to see them come.  They are usually very warm too and that is
an even bigger bonus.  In the winter these winds turn freezing cold. 

In the fall months we also get very large swells from the south due to the big storms off of Mainland Mexico and Southern Baja.  A hurricane moving into the window about 600 to 1200 miles off the tip
of Baja makes for a killer swell here in Southern California.  This is the very best time of year for our local breaks all over the county.  Good places to watch are Huntington Beach from the pier and also around Brooks Street in Laguna Beach from the bluff above the beach.  So, if you wanna see some good surfing this is a great time to do it.
