A Dreamy Destination: Escape to Catalina Island

Anja Brydum

This summer, escape to Catalina Island. From beach-front hotels, to cozy bed and breakfasts, to a lavish four-star country inn – Catalina Island is a dreamy destination and a great place to unwind in the SoCal sun.

The Charm of Avalon
With its quaint Mediterranean charm, the main town of Avalon is easy to navigate by foot. Explore the picturesque harbor. Slow down the pace and enjoy the view. And though walking is the preferred mode of transportation on the island, if you feel like going for a drive, golf carts are available for rent. The May fire that damaged just 10% of the Island's interior didn't harm any of Avalon's tours, attractions, sightseeing, restaurants or hotels. The Island is as beautiful as ever.

Wet or Dry
Catalina boasts some of the clearest water in the world. If you’re into diving, snorkeling, kayaking or parasailing, this is the place for you. Wanna stay dry? Take a tour on a glass bottom boat (invented right here) or try out a semi-submersible tour. Of course, you’ll find plenty of landlocked activities too, like horseback riding, hiking and golfing.

Plan Your Getaway
Catalina is located 22 miles off the coast of Southern California. Travel time is less than one hour by boat or 15 minutes by air. For additional information about Catalina Island, including special events, accommodations, attractions, and activities, contact Catalina Express at
