The time may come when the blinding bulbs of LA
may be too bright for you. So tone it down this winter and mosey
on over to
Westwood Village. A
charming fusion of quaint college town and red carpet glamour, Westwood Village
is located only blocks away
from the UCLA campus and only minutes from the Sunset
Strip.
A
Place to Hang and Hobnob
There are so many places to choose from, packed
conveniently into
this little goldmine that it's ridiculous. From
restaurants to shopping,
movies, plays, bars, clubs, museums, and galleries oh
my! A notable
few? One would be Habibi CafÄ and Hookah Lounge on
Broxton
Boulevard. More for the older guys and gals, Habibi
has the Sunset hot spot atmosphere, but doesn't have that ultra
exclusiveness
vibe to it. Most definitely a fun place for a group
outing, especially
since that bill can get rather pricey. But you could
easily take a date,
though you might wanna opt for an outside table if
they don't like
the club feel. The food is tasty and diverse but with a
more obvious
emphasis on the Mediterranean.
A Place to Treat Your Tastebuds
Westwood Village is rather small, so everything is
convenient.
Another must see to check out is Diddy Riese, across
the street
from Habibi. This unique sweet shop serves homemade ice
cream
cookie sandwiches that are just so incredibly good,
and they're only
$1.50 each. The lines are always long, but it's worth
it and they go
fast. Choose from an assortment of different cookies
and ice cream
flavors and they smack all that sweetness together.
A Place to Catch Some Culture
There is also a variety of nice independent theatres
playing
good mainstream and indie flicks scattered about.
Check out the
Mann Bruin, where they sometimes hold movie premiers.
For the
more culturally inclined, there's the Armand Hammer Museum of Art and Cultural Center on Wilshire, UCLA Fowler Museum of Cultural History, The Geffen Playhouse, and the Art One Gallery on Broxton. But that's just the tip of the
iceberg. Go to Westwood Village and see for yourself how much this
hidden gem has to offer.
