Hey, Where'd You Get That? Your LA Shopping Guide

Lisa Fernandez

They grace the covers of all the latest magazines, wearing nothing but today’s hottest fads.  They are Hollywood’s fashion trendsetters.  They always look amazing and we want to look as amazing as they do.  But how?  Luckily, you’ve come to the right place.  Los Angeles is where Hollywood’s hottest hang their hats and LA is the place they buy that hat.  So where does one begin the search for the fiercest of fashions?  All you need to do is pick the fashion fantasyland that best suits you.

Beverly Hills/West Hollywood
If the sky’s the limit, then there’s no better place to start than Rodeo Drive.  From Cartier to Prada, you’ll find everything luxurious to look as posh as Victoria Beckham.  Further down on La Cienaga Boulevard you’ll find Beverly Center, a six-story shopper’s paradise.  For trendy shops like Kitson or True Religion, a stop on Robertson Boulevard is a must because the celeb train is always stopping at that station.

Hollywood
If your style is more funky fresh, head down to Melrose Avenue, known for the best boutiques and vintage stores in the city.  From Von Dutch fads to secondhand gems at Wasteland, Hollywood is a great place to pick up some of the style you’d find on any hip young celeb.

Santa Monica/The West Side
Third Street Promenade is a gigantic outdoor mall with stores ranging from fashion to furniture.  Need more incentive?  It’s blocks from the beach and it has an incredible Farmer’s Market.  And we can’t forget the nearby stores.  AnthropologieLushGiant Robot and Giant Robot 2.  And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Downtown
For the bargain hunter in all of us, LA conveniently locates the Fashion District between Main Street and San Pedro Street on Olympic Boulevard, tiny stores chockfull of ridiculously low priced textiles, flowers and the ever-favorite knockoff.

The Valley/The East Side
Yep, it’s the “Gag me with a spoon!” valley.  You are on the east side of LA, the home of the original valley girl.  And where you find a valley girl you find a mall, and the valley gives you more malls than you can shake a stick at.  You have the Glendale Galleria, El Paseo Mall and the Topanga Mall, just to name a few.  All are gigantic and sure to tickle your fancy with stores like MAC, BCBG, Planet Funk and Urban Outfitters.  For women’s sizes 12+, check out Abundance just east of Woodman Avenue.  Abundance has something special for any occasion.

No matter what you’re looking for, LA has something for every style on the planet.  So warm up those credit cards and strap on those walking shoes.  Happy hunting.
