We who live here in this wonderland that is Southern California are very lucky to have an amazing amount of beautiful beaches to choose from when heading out to the waterline is our activity of choice. From the LA County line on the north to the Mexican border on the south, there is about every kind of beach or shoreline imaginable.
In Los Angeles County, we have one of the most famous beaches on the planet. That would be Malibu. Known for its excellent surfing conditions and as the beach playground of the movie start set, this little stretch of coastline is dripping with history. If you have never been there, you should go. When you get there you iwll immediately go "Oh yeah, I remember this place in a zillion movies and TV shows."
In Orange County, there is Huntington Beach. This place is not only called "Surf City", but it is probably the center of the surfing culture. The biggest surfing competitions in the world are held at this beach every year, and it is known as the place to go to find out what will be happening in surf fashions a year or two from now. It seems to all start there.
San Diego County has it all. Pristine, uncrowded, sandy beaches in the North County and fantastic coves and reefs in La Jolla and Sunset Cliffs area. This area is a diver's delight, known as the home of some of the most beautiful and easily accessible beaches in the world.
The biggest problem in selecting a beach to visit is that there are so many great choices.
