One of the most eagerly anticipated exhibits in the history of the Los Angeles Zoo is here. After nearly
four years, gorillas finally return to the LA Zoo. Beginning November 8, you’re
invited to come visit these magnificent mammals in their new home: Campo
Gorilla Reserve.
Their Origin Western lowland gorillas come from the tropical rainforests of Cameroon, Africa. They are the strongest and
largest of the great apes, and as herbivores, their diets consist of various plants, leaves, thistles, and fruit.
Their Plight These incredible creatures are classified as critically
endangered due to exceptionally high levels of hunting and disease, which combined are estimated to have
caused population decline by more than 60 percent in the last 20 – 25 years. If they aren’t protected, these great apes will soon become extinct.
Their Behavior Thanks to the LA Zoo, you can get up-close-and-personal to these gentle giants at Campo Gorilla Reserve.
Witness firsthand behavior typical of the gorillas’ harmonious existence within their natural rainforest habitat.
Your Part The LA Zoo’s new gorilla habitats and interpretive displays
help raise awareness for the gorillas’ great struggle. So spend some time with
these intelligent, vunerable animals at Campo Gorilla Reserve and learn how you
too can help save them from extinction.
Los Angeles Zoo is located at 5333 Zoo Drive, Los Angeles. For tickets or more information, call 323-644-4200 or log on to www.lazoo.org.
