Then the party moves into neighborhood restaurants, bars, and private spaces. Grab all the info you need online (including a map of the galleries). downtownartwalk.org. Wheelchair Accessible.
Editors February 11. 7pm. The Wiltern. 3790 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles. Every month we try to narrow down our concert picks to one show we think you can’t live without. For February, we’re begging you to check out British indie rockers Editors. Their dark, post-punk melodies have us thinking a little about Joy Division, and a little about Interpol, but mostly just have us itching to put our dancing shoes on. The sound at the Wiltern literally rocks, but if you grab general admission tix, get there early to get a great standing-room-only spot. 213-380-5005. livenation.com. Wheelchair Accessible.
First Fridays February 5 (1st Friday of every month). 5:30 – 10pm. Natural History Museum. 900 Exposition Blvd., Los Angeles. Wanna have a drink with dinosaurs? No, seriously. Each evening during First Fridays, the museum stays open late, features live music, exciting scientific discussion, and custom curatorial tours. Gaps are bridged between contemporary science, culture, and the individual experience; young and adult audiences commingle; and you can literally have a cocktail with a T Rex. This month’s tour is Energy, Power, and the Transformation of Early L.A., the discussion is Where in the World Will Our Energy Come From? and featured performers include Warpaint, Them Jeans, Ana Calderon, and our personal favorite, Yeasayer. 213-763-DINO. nhm.org. Wheelchair Accessible.
Mary Poppins Through February 7. Ahmanson Theatre. 135 N. Grand Avenue, Los Angeles. Broadway’s supercalifragilistic, award-winning hit Mary Poppins is finally here. Based on P.L. Travers’ cherished stories and the classic 1964 Walt Disney film, the production features the Academy Award®-winning music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman. Don’t miss this perfectly magical musical. 213-628-2772. centertheatregroup.org. Wheelchair Accessible.
Rembrandt Prints Through March 22 (Closed Mondays). Hammer Museum. 10899 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles. Rembrandt van Rijn was a prolific printmaker and created about 300 etchings over the course of his long career. This exhibition includes a slew of these etchings with subjects ranging from religious narratives to figure studies and landscape. What’s even more fascinating is that the exhibition also features different impressions of the same print, inviting you to closely compare the compositions and see how the artist experimented with each individual impression. 310-443-7000. hammer.ucla.edu.
