The original Farmers Market at Third and Fairfax is commemorating its 75th anniversary with a week-long celebration commencing on July 13.  The beloved venue was created on July 14, 1934, when 18 vendors, including a dozen local farmers, parked their trucks on a large vacant lot which had been a dairy farm and an oil field.  The Farmers Market has been at the center of Los Angeles commerce and culture ever since.   Here’s just a taste of what the seven-day event has in store for you.

Taste of Farmers Market

The Market presents Taste of Farmers Market from 5 - 9pm on July 14.  This evening event offers an unprecedented opportunity to sample the best of what Farmers Market offers for a single, all-inclusive price.  Stroll the entire Market, sampling food from virtually all of the Market’s 36 restaurants.  Retail and grocery merchants offer special sales on select merchandise.  And others in the Market serve up special pricing, which either mirrors 1934 costs or celebrates 75 years.  The event also boasts music and entertainment for the whole family.

Farmers Market Karaoke Idol

July 15 features something unique.  Join the fun when the Market and the bars of Farmers Market stage an exceptional event on the West Patio.  This is where the best of the best in karaoke performers from the Market’s storied karaoke evenings compete for the most-coveted title: Farmers Market Karaoke Idol.

Big Birthday Bash

The Market’s Big Birthday Bash begins early on July 16 and lasts all day long.  A morning birthday party, starting at 8am, brings you the USC Marching Band and an intricate card stunt with volunteers flipping huge, stadium sized cards - thus creating what is probably the biggest birthday card ever.  What’s more, you’ll find free cupcakes for all who attend and special gifts and prizes for everyone who visits the Farmers Market tent with proof that they are 75 years old.  And that’s not all.  The morning festivities are followed by a day of music and celebration. 

The Best of Market Summer Music

From July 16 - 19, the Market hosts the Best Of Market Summer Music.  And on July 18 and 19, the Market presents the Best of Farmers Market Summer Family Fun, offering a variety of musical acts and daytime programs for children.
