Epic. If one word could describe The Ultimate Wave Tahiti featuring the incredible Kelly Slater, that’d be it (and if we could use two words, it’d be “totally epic”). Let’s face it: Kelly Slater is easily one of the most iconic surfers of modern times, and watching him emerge on the giant screen in his first ever IMAX® film appearance is nothing short of breathtaking. So get on over to the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center and experience veteran director Stephen Low’s The Ulitmate Wave Tahiti on the world’s first NanoSeam™ Dome screen in an IMAX theater.
The Perfect Wave This visually captivating film follows nine-time World Champion surfer Kelly Slater and famed Tahitian surfer, Raimana Van Bastolaer, as they take on Tahiti’s most extreme surf break known as Teahupo’o. Revered by surfers worldwide – though few are capable of tackling its strength and power – Teahupo’o is a one-of-a-kind wave, the most dangerous and perfect wave to be found anywhere.
It’s All Connected Surfing enthusiasts often speak of their pursuit to find the perfect wave. The Ultimate Wave Tahiti brings light to this quest in a format that can be enjoyed by both surfers and those not immersed in surf culture. As key personalities in the film, Slater and Von Bastolaer explain where waves come from, why they are important, and how communities and people far from the ocean shore are affected by the ocean’s interplay within our ecosystem. With the use of advanced animation techniques and science support from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and other authorities, Slater’s hands-on wave experience is woven together with profound scientific insights.
