Get ready to search for life that’s out of this world (and in it). Explore The Science of… Aliens, a special exhibition at San Diego Air & Space Museum that spotlights the scientific facts and fiction surrounding alien life.
In the first zone, Alien Fiction, the exhibit explores how our fears and emotions give new meaning to the concept of alien. For example, in the 1956 film, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, aliens are presented as communist infiltrators. This movie exposed our nation’s security concerns at the height of the Cold War.
Discover the latest research about extremophiles in the Alien Science zone. From probing the abyssal seas on our own planet — to the cosmos — we find that life thrives in other-wordly places. Preserved sea creatures, such as the deep-sea Vampire Squid, demonstrate how “weird” Earthly aliens may seem.
The Alien Worlds zone encourages visitors to visualize life through the eyes of scientists. Imaginary planets, Aurelia and Blue Moon, are represented in massive virtual landscapes.
Now that fact is separated from fiction, it’s time to reach out to aliens in the Alien Communication zone. Visitors can send virtual messages and wonder – will it be received?
